You have probably heard the term abscess tooth. But what is it?
An abscess develops when a pocket of infection forms in the gums or around a tooth as a result of bacteria in the mouth. An abscess can form in a matter of days and will continue to worsen if the infection is left untreated.
Risk Factors
Several factors can increase one’s chances of developing an abscess including the following:
•Weakened Immune System
•Poor Dental Hygiene
•High Sugar Diet
•Persistent Dry Mouth
In most cases, prompt treatment of an abscess will prevent any serious complications. However, if left untreated, dental infections can pose significant, potentially life-threatening health complications.
