Astronauts are required to have great dental health

Do you want to be an astronaut when you grow up? There are quite a few technical requirements, but if you don’t have perfect eyesight and “outstanding” oral health you need not apply. Astronauts experience a G-force of up to four times their body weight as they lift off. This pressure would cause great pain if there were any undetected cavities or other oral issues. In addition, the vibration could weaken dental fillings, or loosen crowns and implants. Astronauts examined after a simulated space flight showed an increased risk for periodontal diseases based on changes in oral bacteria. Any pre-existing condition would worsen under these circumstances. 🔭🌎🥼🦷
